Karen Gayton Comeau (formerly Swisher) is a member of the Standing Rock Sioux Tribe and is a leading researcher in the education field. Dr Comeau was the president of Haskell Indian Nations University in Lawrence, Kansas from 1999 to 2006. Her area of expertise includes curriculum development, instruction and teacher education, teaching courses in multicultural education and Indian education. Dr Comeau and a former colleague were instrumental in recognising learning styles as a factor for understanding and effectively teaching American Indian and Alaska Native Students.
